The Mexican-American and Republican US congresswoman, Anna Paulina Luna, claimed she was Jewish until The Washington Post on Friday revealed that Luna is probably not telling the truth about her so called “Jewish heritage”. But this weird story doesn’t end here. It turns out that Luna’s grandfather fought for Nazi Germany in the second World War according to the newspaper.
In an interview back in November 2022, with the Jewish Insider, Luna told the magazine, “I was raised as a Messianic Jew by my father”. She also said, despite of her “Jewish background”, that she identifies herself as a Christian, but added, “I am also a small fraction Ashkenazi.”
Luna was interviewed by the magazine in reaction to the fact that Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, who apparently have been accused of making “conspiracy” theories about Jews according to the Jerusalem Post, had endorsed Luna’s candidacy for Congress. Luna commented this issue in the interview, by saying, “If she [Taylor Greene] were antisemitic, why did she endorse me?”, with reference to her claimed Ashkenazi Jewish background.
According to the Washington Post the lying about her Jewish heritage is not the only controversial revelation. The newspaper also claims that the congresswoman’s paternal grandfather, was Heinrich Mayerhofer, who served in the armed forces of Nazi Germany when he was a teenager in the 1940s. Mayerhofer died in 2003.
