The UN Security Council has approved sending an international force to Haiti to stop the growing influence of violent gangs in the country.

Big parts of Haiti have fallen under the control of criminal gangs, and in the capital, Port-au-Prince, everyday life has been characterized by murders, brutal robberies and kidnappings.

The 15-member council adopted a resolution, that authorizes a Multinational Security Support mission “to take all necessary measures” to fight of the gangs, Reuters reports.
