More than 3 million low-income UK households can’t afford to heat their homes this winter, and about 2.4 million households have forced to borrow money on credit to cover their electricity bills and to be able to survive this cold winter.

Due to the inflation and the current energy crisis, millions of Britons are struggling every day to cope with the financial difficulties they are facing every day. About 710,000 households struggle to pay for warm clothing, heating and food, according to a survey by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, The Guardian reports.

According to the survey, approximately a fifth of the 2.5 million low-income households, is going without food and heating.

Rachelle Earwaker, senior economist at JRF told the Guardian: “We are still experiencing historically high inflation and the prices of essentials are still soaring. Energy bills, while capped, are still almost double what they were last winter. Housing shortages, rising rents and mortgage payments are overburdening budgets across the country.” She said also said that, “People are being forced to wager their financial health and whether they can afford more debt, against their wellbeing without sufficient heat, clothing or hot food.”
