Men in Sweden should avoid having one night stands with women they met for example in bars and night clubs. Because the risk of going to prison accused of rape charges is high in the country, according to the Swedish lawyer Kristina Bandrup.

According to Swedish law, men are obligated to have some sort of evidence that the women they intend to have sex with, have approved the sexual act by consent in advance. Or else they could face a jail sentence for a couple of years, if they can’t prove that the sexual act was indeed approved by the women.

Bandrup said in a debate in Swedish television, that the law can create major problems for men, especially for young men, if they are intoxicated with alcohol.

Bandrup also claimed that the law is very vague to understand. “This law is great in theory, but it doesn’t work in practice”, she says.

It is not clear if men are obligated to have a written and signed contract, every time they want to have sex with women, that in fact can support their thesis and can be proved in court. An oral agreement is of obvious resaons hard to prove.

Kristina Bandrup has an advice to young men in Sweden, so they will not be accused of rape: “Perhaps young men should not have sex drunk the first time. Avoid one night stands if you are drunk.” She also says that it is “unfair to men who can’t speak for themselves, who can’t talk. Verbally weak men, they are judged in my opinion.”
