Google fires 12,000 employees -“Different economic reality” – CEO

Google’s parent company Alphabet, have to fire 12,000 employees, which is about six percent of the company’s staff.

Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai writes in a staff message, that the company has increased its hiring rate in recent years “for a different economic reality than the one that prevails today”, according to Reuters.

“I take full responsibility for the decisions that have led us here,” writes Sundar Pichai.

The layoffs are the latest in a series of tech companies and other major corporate players on the world stage, such as Amazon and Goldman Sachs, that have announced major job cuts in the past year as a result of the declining economy.
