Canada intends to bring back at least 23 Canadian citizens from prison camps in northeastern Syria where people who fought for the Islamic State (ISIS), and family members, are held.
According to the AFP, it involves 4 men, 13 women and 6 children.
The decision to bring the ISIS-fighters back to Canada came after relatives to the ISIS-members sued the Canadian government and claimed that it is obliged to bring them back, if it wants to live up to the country’s Charter of Freedoms and Rights.
Even the ISIS-men must be brought home according to the Canadian court in a separate court decision.
According to the Human Rights Watch, it is assumed that another 30 Canadian citizens and members of ISIS are still being held in the camps.
