In an appearance on Swedish state-controlled legacy media, SVT, a professor in Practical Philosophy, is highlighted as an “expert” on the subject of happiness, and claims that people who have children are less happy. At the same time, he claims that drinking alcohol makes people happier.
The professor, Erik Angner, who practices his teachings at Stockholm University, claims that it is a “myth” that people are happier when they have children, and that this is simply not true according to the professor.
“People with children are generally less happy than people without,” says professor Angner, and adds as a comparison, that “people who spend time with their children get less pleasure from it than when they do many other things, such as going to the movies, drinking booze, or watching sports on TV.”
This whole appearance on Swedish TV was about the topic of happiness, after Finland had been appointed for the eighth year in a row as the happiest country in the world, according to The World Happiness Report, controlled by the University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Center, in partnership with Gallup, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and their Editorial Board, where none other than the eminent professor Jeffrey D. Sachs can be found.
Finland, a country tradionally known for its high alcohol consumption, has also the most drug-related deaths among people under 25 in proportion to its population, according to the study “European Drug Report for 2022”.
According to Angner, the Finnish lifestyle with low expectations of life, is a key factor to their happiness. “We all know people who have far too high ambitions in all different domains and that’s a pretty surefire way to become unhappy,” says Angner, and adds also, that “one can buy happiness with money” since lots of money will make one less worried, according to the professor.
